Adaptive Lighting systems (AFS = Advanced Frontlighting System) offered by Automotive Lighting make night driving and driving in bad weather conditions safer and more comfortable. The driver can rely on effective lighting of the road, of the roadside, of the bends and also of dark corners. Automotive Lighting also develops Dynamic Curve Light, Cornering Light and Motorway Light systems, in addition to standard functions.
Dynamic curve light
Whilst driving, an electronic control unit evaluates the range of dynamic driving parameters during the trip: steering angle, speed, and the yaw rate sensor of the vehicle. Based on this analysis, the low beam unit lamps automatically swivel horizontally according to the curve radius, ensuring optimal road lighting. This improves visibility by 70% compared to traditional systems and makes night driving safer and more comfortable. In 2003, Automotive Lighting was the first to fit the dynamic curve light on the BMW 3 coupé convertible.
Cornering Light
The Cornering Light turns on at low speeds while taking a bend and/or when the blinkers are activated, to better illuminate the roadside and tight bends. The Cornering Light can be obtained with an additional light source positioned inside or outside the headlamp or, alternatively, in the bumper, as a solution with lower costs, with the installation of a fog lamp.
Motorway Light
The Motorway Light switches on when the vehicle reaches a speed of 90 km/h. As the speed increases, so do the performances of the Xenon lamp. This way, the illumination range of the low beam is extended up to 160 m. By switching on an additional light source, a sophisticated Motorway Light is activated. This translates into an increase of the illumination range up to 190 m.
