GM to launch ebike brand in 2019
General Motors plans to launch a new brand and lineup of electrified bicycles beginning next year.
The initiative is part of the automaker's mission to provide additional zero-emission modes of transportation for consumers — particularly city dwellers.
Jennifer Cathcart, eBike marketing manager, said the first two products of a planned lineup will be compact and foldable electrified bicycles.
The bicycles have been designed and developed by GM engineers who have extensive experience in transmission technology. Further details on the products will be available at the beginning of next year.
The company has not yet decided the name of the new brand, launching a contest on the Internet to receive proposals from users by November 26th.
