Monza: the special limited series is the new Ferrari "Icona"
During the Capital Markets Day, Ferrari unveiled the new Monza SP1 and SP2, models belonging to a special limited series that inaugurates a new segment called "Icona".
The cars that will be part of it, like the two just unveiled, are born from a concept inspired by the most evocative cars of the Prancing Horse brand of the '50s and will be equipped with the best technologies available today.
The two new models take up the theme of the competition "barchette" that contributed to the creation of the Ferrari legend in the 1950s thanks to the many triumphs in the World Sport Championship.
The Monza SP1 was designed as a single-seater car with a very particular identity, while the Monza SP2 is the two-seater version that, thanks to the elimination of the tonneau cover and the addition of a second air deflector and a second roll-bar, also allows the passenger to share the same emotion as the driver.
The two Ferrari "Icona" have the best weight-power ratio (1500 Kg the weight of the SP1, 1520 kg that of the SP2) for a car in "barchetta" configuration, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber in the construction.
Equipped with the most powerful engine ever for the Maranello brand, a 6.5-liter V12 capable of delivering 810 hp/603 kW at 8500 rpm and 719 Nm of maximum torque, exceeding 300 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.
The thrill of the "speed on the face", until now reserved almost exclusively for Formula 1 drivers, is directly linked to the concept of a cockpit excavated in the car's volume, which welcomes the driver and the entire driving interface.
The designers paid particular attention to the minimal design of the doors, which extend upwards.
Equally important is the forward opening of the large engine bonnet, which also integrates the mudguards, entirely in carbon, thus showing off the powerful V12 engine.
The weight reduction and the "barchetta" configuration guarantee the cars a perfectly balanced dynamic and without any kind of rolling for an involvement in the mix road of pure sports car.
