New Volkswagen plant in Rwanda to start production by year end
Following the agreement signed last December with local government authorities, the Volkswagen Group plant in Rwanda is now under construction and it will be operational by the end of the year.
As anticipated by the German brand manager in South Africa, Thomas Schäfer, the Kigali factory will initially build 1,000 units a year, but it has the potential to grow up to about 3,000 units, mainly with low environmental impact.
Production activities in Rwanda will enable the Volkswagen Group to consolidate its growth strategy throughout the African continent. The carmaker already operates in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, particularly with the Polo.
